Alanis: Should you drink extra water if it is super hot?
Megan: Yes, you should definitely drink extra water in extreme heat. The increase depends on your activity level, sun exposure, and sweat rate. Under normal conditions, recommendations are around 2.5 to 3.5 liters per day for adults. If you are outdoors or active in the heat, aim to drink approximately 8 ounces (about 1 cup or 250 ml) every 15 to 20 minutes. This is about 24 to 32 ounces (about 0.75 to 1 liter) per hour. Drinking smaller amounts frequently is far more effective for absorption and stomach comfort than chugging large volumes at once.
