Jordan Z. Marks, San Diego County Assessor-Recorder-County Clerk (ARCC), will celebrate American Archives Month by hosting a free event from 3 to 7 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 21, at the ARCC’s East County office, 10144 Mission Gorge Road, Santee. The public is invited to attend.
According to Marks, San Diego County ARCC, the event will feature informational tables from local museums, libraries and historical organizations and a panel discussion on preserving and sharing military history. Also, the event will include Marks presenting Champions of History and Heritage awards and tours of the county archives.
Marks said the event will highlight the tools, insights and inspiration to connect with our county’s stories. He said archives preserve local history, amplify underrepresented voices and empower communities.
The ARCC Santee office houses parcel maps, ownership records and assessment rolls dating to 1850, when San Diego became one of California’s original counties. The ARCC Santee office is often visited by genealogists, historians and researchers.
The Society of American Archivists has designated October as American Archives Month. For event information, call, visit www.sdarcc.gov, or call 619-236-3771.
The ARCC office, with more than 450 employees and five offices in San Diego County, oversees assessing the value of real estate and personal property, which in San Diego includes planes and boats. It is responsible for recording all legal real estate documents and registering business names, along with issuing marriage licenses and birth and death certificates.
