TERI Inc. Awarded $1 Million Grant from the Walter J. and Betty C. Zable Foundation…

The San Diego-based TERI Inc. is pleased to announce the Walter J. and Betty C. Zable Foundation has awarded the nonprofit a $1,000,000 grant for Phase II of the TERI Campus for Life in San Marcos, California. The foundation will release $500,000 of the grant when TERI pulls the grading permit and begins grading. The additional $500,000 will be donated as a challenge upon finding a $500,000 match. Zable will match dollar-for-dollar all new contributions from individuals, the community, corporations, and foundations toward the completion of Phase II. TERI has until December 31, 2018 to receive $500,000 in donations for Zable to provide the $500,000 matching funds.

The TERI Campus of Life is designed to be an innovative, university-like environment that will not only build upon TERI’s successful model programs and services that empower individuals with developmental disabilities, but also serve as an inclusive center for the local community, veterans, and the military. The public will have access to the performing arts and music center, the aquatic center, the health and wellness fitness center, and more.

Phase I of the 20-acre campus is complete, including property acquisition, zoning, planning, and construction of the Equestrian Therapy Center. Phase II includes grading the property, creating the vocational agriculture center, and initiating site work for the remaining 10 buildings.

“The Zable Foundation has supported TERI for several years with annual grants and has been closely monitoring its progress on the Campus of Life,” said Warren Magill, Board President of the Zable Foundation. “We believe now is the time to move this project closer to completion. We are hopeful that our initial contribution and challenge will help facilitate the additional momentum needed to complete this important community project.”

“It’s so very exciting. The challenge portion of the grant calls upon individuals, private foundations, and companies to join the Zable Foundation’s investment in the Campus,” said Cheryl Kilmer, TERI’s CEO and founder. “With the support of the $500k matching gift, donors now have a unique opportunity to double their gift to support the TERI Campus of Life.”

When projecting its fundraising success, TERI has the opportunity to realize a total of $1.5 million or more toward the completion of the Campus for Life. TERI Inc. is a registered 501(c)3 organization. Donations are tax deductible to the fullest extent allowed by law.

“The Zable Foundation supports assistance to those in need and is continuing the tradition of its founders who have supported the San Diego community for over sixty-five years. The Campus of Life is an important and bold project that deserves the support of the community,” shared Magill. “We believe the entire community should get behind this meaningful life-changing project. We hope the community will join us by meeting our challenge grant.”

“We have seen the need for creative, compassionate support for people with developmental and learning disabilities grow exponentially and have designed this Campus to make a global impact through sharing our models with organizations everywhere,” explains Kilmer. “We are incredibly thankful to be partnering with the Zable Foundation to take our mission to the next level in changing the way the world sees and helps people with special needs.”

Since its founding in 1980, TERI has grown to provide holistic, lifespan services to more than 800 individuals and their families, including persons who have autism, Down syndrome, learning disabilities, cerebral palsy, traumatic brain injuries, and other special needs. Recognized and used as a model program in California, TERI also consults with professionals and agencies throughout the U.S. and in more than 13 countries.
