Serious Injury Accident – San Marco

On 04/13/18, at approximately 5:33 pm, deputies were dispatched to an unknown injury collision involving multiple vehicles. The collision occurred in the area of 1615 W. San Marcos Blvd., in the city of San Marcos. A 91 year old male, driving a 2017 Kia Sportage, was traveling northbound on S. Rancho Santa Fe Rd. towards W. San Marcos Blvd. when he failed to stop for the red light. The driver of the Kia Sportage continued through the intersection making a right turn and colliding with a 2006 BMW 535 that was proceeding eastbound on W. San Marcos Blvd. The driver of the Kia Sportage continued eastbound on W. San Marcos Blvd. and attempted to make a left turn into the shopping center across from San Marcos High School. While trying to make a left turn, the front of the Kia Sportage collided with a 2002 GMC Sonoma pickup truck in the # 1 westbound lane of W. San Marcos Blvd and then collided with a 2018 Infiniti Q70 that was in the # 2 westbound lane of W. San Marcos Blvd. The Kia Sportage then came to an uncontrolled point of rest facing eastbound in the westbound lanes of W. San Marcos Blvd.

San Marcos Fire Department responded to the collision scene and transported the driver of the Kia Sportage to Palomar Medical Center.

The driver sustained serious injuries as a result of the collision and was admitted for his injuries. Alcohol is not a factor in the collision.
Anyone who may have witnessed the collision can contact Deputy Bennetts at the San Marcos Sheriff’s station. The investigation and cause of the collision is on-going and being conducted by the San Marcos Traffic Unit.
