SACRAMENTO – Senator Patricia Bates (R-Laguna Niguel) announced today that she has earned a 100 percent score from the nonpartisan National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) on its 2018 legislative score card. The NFIB advocates for America’s small and independent business owners, representing more than 300,000 members nationally and more than 20,000 in California. Since being elected to the California State Senate in 2014, Senator Bates has also earned a 100 percent score from NFIB on its 2015, 2016, and 2017 legislative score cards.

“Owning a small business is part of the California Dream for many people and I’m committed to doing everything I can to keep that dream alive for years to come,” said Senator Bates. “That’s why I’m honored to be recognized by the NFIB for my work to promote and protect small businesses. Our state must do more to make entrepreneurship more affordable in every community.”
NFIB assessed legislators on bills it deemed vital to the health of small businesses in California during 2018. For example, Senator Bates opposed bills that will make energy costs more expensive (SB 100, De León). She was also recognized for her votes to help small retailers limit their losses from theft (AB 1065, Jones-Sawyer) and to help businesses comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act (AB 3002, Grayson).
In addition to her perfect score with NFIB for the 2018 legislative year, Senator Bates also earned high marks from the Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Association for her record on fiscal responsibility; the California Chamber of Commerce for her votes on bills important to job creators; and the California Manufacturers & Technology Association for her commitment to increasing manufacturing in the state.

Senator Patricia Bates (R-Laguna Niguel) represents the 36th Senate District in the California Legislature, which covers South Orange County, North San Diego County, and Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton. She is the Senate Republican Leader.
