SACRAMENTO – Senate Republican Leader Patricia Bates (R-Laguna Niguel) released the following statement on the passing of former President George H.W. Bush:
“My thoughts and prayers are with the Bush family as they mourn the loss of President George H.W. Bush, whose extraordinary life inspired many in his family to serve others.
“Our nation will always be grateful for President Bush’s patriotism and commitment to public service. His decision at age 18 to sign up as a naval aviator in World War II and his distinguished efforts in 58 combat missions are an early testament to those values, and they served him well when he became the 41st president. With those values and his knowledge of domestic politics and foreign affairs, President Bush’s seasoned leadership successfully navigated our nation through many challenging events, including the end of the Cold War and the liberation of Kuwait during the First Gulf War.
“While today is filled with sadness, I take comfort that President Bush has reunited with Barbara. Both were selfless public servants who dedicated their lives to our nation.”
Senate Republican Leader Patricia Bates (R-Laguna Niguel) represents the 36th Senate District in the California Legislature, which covers South Orange County, North San Diego County, and Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton.
