On Monday, March 12 2018, at approximately 10:56 am, deputies were dispatched to a collision involving a vehicle and a bicyclist at the intersection of Craven Road and Foxhall Drive in the city of San Marcos. Prior to the collision, witnesses observed the 71 year old bicyclist merge left from the dedicated bike lane into the path of the driver of a white 2014 Jeep Cherokee. The driver was unable to avoid a collision with the bicyclist. After the collision, the driver called 911 and remained on scene until emergency services personnel responded to the scene.

The bicyclist temporarily lost consciousness prior to being transported by paramedics to Palomar Medical Center for serious, life threatening injuries to his head, chest, and pelvis. The driver’s identity has been withheld because she is a juvenile. The injured bicyclist’s identity has been withheld pending the notification of his next of kin. Alcohol and/or drug impairment does not appear to be a factor at this time. The investigation and cause of the collision is under investigation. We ask that anyone who may have witnessed the collision to please contact Deputy Arnold at the Sheriff’s Station in San Marcos.
