March 2018 Volunteer Newsletter

It’s that time of year again! As the staff prepare for our upcoming 15th Annual Spring Into HOPE Dinner & Auction, the kids in the shelter spent time this week decorating squares for our 15th Annual Quilt! These quilts express the feelings & emotions the children & parents hold while in shelter. This has been a longstanding tradition since the shelter opened in 2003, and this year’s 15th annual quilt will be revealed at this year’s Spring Into HOPE Dinner & Auction on Saturday, March 24th from 5pm-8pm.
This 15th Annual Spring Into HOPE Dinner & Auction will provide ample opportunity to have fun all while raising funds and awareness for homeless families and children in our community. Auction items will include popular vacation trips like a 7-day stay in a private Big Bear cabin located near Big Bear Lake and Snow Summit. Join us for the upcoming 15th Annual Dinner & Auction to bid on this trip. Other auction items will include artwork from local artists, opportunity baskets, and much more!
Volunteer of the Month
This month, we would like to honor Tracy Cole Lyons as our March Volunteer of the Month. Tracy is the daughter of Jean Cole, one of the founders of Operation HOPE-Vista, and has long been a part of the shelter’s efforts. More recently we are excited to have Tracy back as a volunteer! Tracy has been instrumental in helping to get the client boutique organized, as well as helping the Development Team organize and plan our events. She is always willing to lend a hand or offer some words of encouragement, we are genuinely blessed to have Tracy on our team to help carry on her mother’s legacy.
Honoring Our Supporters
Khailyn Donations
This month we would like to recognize our Motiv Teen Fellow Kailyn H. for all of her hard work and volunteer efforts at Operation HOPE-Vista. Kailyn is planning a number of upcoming service activities here at the shelter, but she recently organized a supply drive at her school collecting numerous supplies that were needed here at the shelter. It never ceases to amaze us how generous this community is in supporting our work!
Attend an Orientation
Have you been thinking about getting involved more in your community? Come on by the shelter for a tour and a volunteer application! We are currently in need of more volunteers at the Front Desk and in our Kid’s Hour M-Thurs! Operation HOPE-Vista relies on the services of over 100 volunteers each and every week in order to successfully run our program. We are currently looking for more volunteers to assist in leading games, arts & crafts, and team-building activities with the youth currently in shelter. Click the button below to sign up for an upcoming orientation, or sign up for a shift here if you are a current volunteer!
