April 2018 Volunteer Newsletter

On behalf of the families, staff, volunteers and board of directors, we want to thank everyone who attended our 15th Annual Spring into HOPE Dinner & Auction! It was an enchanted evening full of fun and great company with members from our community all while raising funds and awareness for homeless families and children in North County. As we raised our paddles to Fund a Night at the shelter and bid on fun trips, restaurant nights out and baskets, Operation HOPE-Vista was able to raise over $34,000 in just one night! That amount will cover a total of 680 nights of shelter, and we couldn’t have done it without the generous support of our community.
Operation HOPE-Vista’s staff and Board of Directors were proud to present this year’s Volunteer of the Year Award to longtime volunteer, Paula Theobald. Paula is our Volunteer Meal Coordinator, working with staff and other volunteers to ensure that the women, families, and children in the shelter have a hot meal for dinner 365 days a year. Paula has always been someone to reach out to if there were ever any last minute cancellations, and is a familiar face to see at the Front Desk twice a week at the shelter. As if that weren’t enough, Paula also works with a team of ladies making a steady supply of homemade quilts for all the kids that come into the shelter to help put them at ease as their families begin the hard work to regain their self sufficiency. Operation HOPE-Vista’s volunteers are the heart and soul of our mission, and we count ourselves lucky to have Paula on our team. Thank you Paula!
Amazon Wish List
Operation HOPE-Vista has recently updated our Amazon Wish List, and we hope this new Amazon feature will make it easier for our supporters to understand the current needs of the various programs at the shelter. For example, the “healthy snack pantry” here at the shelter is starting to look a little bare, so we have added a number of healthy snacks to the After-School Club list so that our little ones can have a nutritious snack when they get home from school so that they can focus on getting their homework done before dinner.

In addition to being easier to navigate, if a supporter purchases one of the recommended items on our page, even if it’s for your own home, you’ll be raising funds for the shelter!

Grape Gatsby
Take a night for your self and step back to a time when cars were automobiles, prohibition ruled the country, speakeasies were less than secret, and fun was saved for after dark. Escape and fantasize it is 1925, and anything goes at the Grape Gatsby Affaire fundraising event. Enjoy wine tastings from 10+ local wineries and the best North County food bites from local restaurants and caterers.

All funds raised go back to the community to clothe, feed, and shelter those in our community! If you have any questions, please give Nicole Ketcher, Director of Resource Development a call at (760) 295-9448 or nicole@operationhopeshelter.org

Attend an Orientation
Have you been thinking about getting involved more in your community? Come on by the shelter for a tour and a volunteer application! We are currently in need of more volunteers at the Front Desk and in our Kid’s Hour M-Thurs! Operation HOPE-Vista relies on the services of over 100 volunteers each and every week in order to successfully run our program.

We are currently looking for more volunteers to assist in leading games, arts & crafts, and team-building activities with the youth currently in shelter. Click the button below to sign up for an upcoming orientation, or sign up for a shift here if you are a current volunteer!
