Carlsbad’s Blast Motion Swings Deal with MLB

Carlsbad-based Blast Motion has been selected as the official bat sensor technology provider of Major League Baseball. Used during batting practice and warm ups, the sensor measures four different metrics: swing speed, time to contact, direction and power in the form of a ‘blast score’. Blast Motion also offers products for golf, basketball and athletic performance in general.

Palomar welcomes new President, Superintendent

Joi Link Blake begins her tenure as the Superintendent and President of Palomar College this month. With more than 30 years of progressive administrative and leadership experience, Blake’s insight will drive the district forward. Things she expects for the district in the near future include internships at Tesla Motors, cybersecurity training for veterans and STEM training for women.

Developer Roundtable to help streamline development processes
In conjunction with NAIOP, Innovate78 hosted a roundtable in Escondido with 15 developers who have interest and/or active projects along the 78 Corridor. The discussion highlighted challenges and opportunities to working with the cities on development projects, and suggested possible solutions to creating a stronger working relationship for projects moving forward.

MiraCosta opens Veteran Business Training Center

MiraCosta College has opened the Veterans Business Outreach Center in Carlsbad – the first center of its kind in Southern California – to assist veteran entrepreneurs in kick starting their businesses. About 236,000 veterans live in San Diego and 10 percent of MiraCosta’s student population is made up of veterans, active duty military or their dependents.

Oceanside receives federal funds for water research

Oceanside was awarded $35,905 from the federal government to research water reuse markets. With the funds, Oceanside will examine adding a third stage reverse osmosis system to the city’s Mission Basin Groundwater Purification Facility. The project could help provide an additional one million gallons of potable water per day to its customers without an increase in the amount of pumping from the Mission Basin.

Black Plague Brewery to open in Oceanside

Black Plague Brewery, a new brewery launching in late 2016, has decided to plant its roots in Oceanside, adding to the city’s already eight breweries. Starting out with a 20-barrel brewing system, the company’s brewmaster will work to produce Black IPA and Golden Rye, both of which will be pushed to market in 22-ounce bottles.
