Former San Marcos Knight Terrell Burgess Shines At Utah
David A. Willauer-Contributing Writer-1-2-19-SDCCU Stadium-San Diego, CA– For the last 3 seasons Terrell Burgess has made an impact on the University of Utah “Running Utes” football team. While at San Marcos High, Terrell was named All CIF San Diego Section first team wide receiver and second team defense along with 8 career interceptions along with 90 career tackles. The former Knight lettered in track where he ran the 100 meters with his personal best time of 11.14 seconds and in the 200 meters with a time of 22.31.
In his freshman year with the Utes,Terrell played 4 games with three appearances on defense while contributing with a tackle and a pass breakup vs. California along with playing both ways early in the season where he had 1 reception for 7 yards against Southern Utah and 2 kickoff returns for 27 yards against rival Brigham Young.
In his sophomore year the former Knight played in all 13 games mostly on special teams along with appearing in 4 games with 1 start on defense where he made 18 tackles. Terrell also registered a career high of 8 tackles vs. Washington, 4 tackles vs. Colorado, 3 tackles vs. West Virginia in the Heart of Dallas Bowl and was named First Team Pac 12 All Academic.
This season,the Kinesology major with the Utes appeared in 13 games and made 2 starts against Arizona State and Oregon his season in tackles were 11 solo tackles with 5 assists for a total of 16 tackles.
Terrell Burgess former San Marcos Knight in his 3rd year at Utah: “Things didn’t go our way today as we made too many mistakes in the second half at this point not much that we can do.” “Northwestern is a great team they played well but we defeated ourselves today mainly in the turnovers.” “The Northwestern quarterback (Clay Thomson) was more mobile tonight as he threw and ran the ball well and I’m glad that we accomplished a lot this season but will come back for more next season.”
