Carlsbad – District Elections: What’s Next?

By   /  April 30, 2017  /  No Comments

Why are people talking about district elections? The City of Carlsbad recently received a letter from a law firm claiming the city is violating the California Voting Rights Act (Elec. Code §§ 14025-14032) because Council members are elected at-large rather than by districts.

Since the required timeframe for taking action is extremely limited, the City Council is tentatively scheduled to address this issue at its May 9 City Council meeting. At this meeting, the City Council will hear staff’s analysis, take comments from the public and decide how to proceed.

Find out more about this issue on the city website.
