The purpose of the Public Arts Commission is to reflect the diverse nature of the City’s population, history, and growth through the public display of art; cultivate audiences for public art; consider ways in which public art can play a role in achieving other community building goals and objectives; foster sponsorship and stewardship of public art; recognition of the economic benefits gained through aesthetic enhancement of the City’s public spaces; and expand the opportunities for residents to experience public art. .
There are seven members appointed by the Mayor with the confirmation of the City Council, including: a) one member at-large, who is a resident of Vista; b) two artists, who are residents of Vista; and c) one member from each of the following organizations: Vista Unified School District, Vista Village Business Association, Alta Vista Gardens, and Friends of the Rancho Buena Vista Adobe; as well as two non-voting youth representatives. The term of office is four years. Director of Recreation and Community Services Rachel Beld is the Staff Liaison.
Meetings are held on the first Tuesday of each month at 6:30 p.m. in either the Council Chambers or the Vista Conference Room located on the second floor of the Vista Civic Center, 200 Civic Center Drive, Vista, CA 92084.
